Yes is the simple answer, we set it up in this way so that there is no service disruption on the expiry of your contract should you wish to continue.

This is all explained in our terms and conditions, but the relevant paragraph reads as follows:

Unless stated otherwise, when your current Subscription expires, your Subscription will automatically be renewed for the same Subscription term that you originally purchased, e.g. every month and at the original (not discounted) price that you paid for your Subscription. Subscription fees will not increase for the duration of your Subscription, despite any overall price changes that we may make. You will be billed for your renewal when your current Subscription term expires.

If we automatically renewed your membership and you didn’t want us to, there is a 14 day cooling off period.  Which is explained below:

Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 ("Regulations"), if you are defined as a consumer, you may cancel your order for the Services within an initial fourteen day cooling off period ("Cooling off Period"). During the Cooling off Period only, notice of cancellation may be effectively given by completing and sending to us by email or post the model cancellation form. You can locate the model cancellation form on the Site by clicking on "Site Membership" under the "Account" tab. Alternatively you may cancel your Subscription during the Cooling Off Period by giving us written notice, calling our Freephone telephone number provided on the Site or emailing us at support@globalpersonals.co.uk. Please note that if you are calling from a mobile, charges may apply. If charges apply, your network service provider should let you know using a recorded message before your call is connected. Provided we have received your notice of cancellation within the Cooling off Period, we will provide you with a refund within fourteen days of your notice. If we have supplied the Service to you, we may make a deduction for the period you received the Service. You agree that we may reimburse you either by cheque or by the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction.

Or of course you can cancel once you have set your membership up, as if you cancel in the middle of a subscription.  Your subscription and charges will still run to the end of the term, but it will not automatically be renewed:

After the Cooling off Period, you may terminate your Subscription with us on any business day (Monday to Friday) during business hours (9am – 5:30pm) before your next renewal date. Cancellation may only be done by calling our customer care team on our Freephone telephone number provided on the Site. You can find further details on how to cancel your Subscription for the Service on the Site by clicking on "Site Membership" under the "Account" link. A request for termination under this clause does not give rise to a refund for any unused amounts of Subscription fees paid.
