The tall persons swim

by richard 23. September 2015 09:00

So this weekend I went for a spa break to relax and unwind.  I have been working hard on various projects over the last couple of months and decided it was time to relax at a spa.  Little did I know that it would result in me again feeling different to all the shorter people in the world!

The first day, we decided to go to the bar for a drink after a fairly long journey.  Sitting in the bar, we got chatting to a couple of guys who were pleasant enough.  When I stood up to go to the bar to get drinks, one of them said “mind your head on the top of the bar!”, as the bar opening did have a facia that came down lower than head height.  The other then shouted, “Oi barmaid, the jolly green giant wants a drink…. but I’m not sure if you can see his head”.  They thought this was hilarious.

Needless to say it wasn’t the attention I wanted so we went and enjoyed our drinks in a quieter area of the bar.

The next day, when we went swimming, I couldn’t believe my luck (note my sarcasm here!) when the same people were in the pool, they were quick to latch on and the following comments (all of which I had heard before in some form or another) came thick and fast….

“Oi Shorty” - not very imaginative!

“You will be able to stand in the deep end, but were having to tread water!”

“You’re only going to get wet up to your knees when you stand up in here!”

“When you push off from one side of the pool, you will already be at the other”

“Are diving boards just big steps for you?”

“Jumping in here for you, is just like us jumping in a puddle!”

“Where do you buy such long swimming trunks, if we put them on they would be like trousers”

“It’s going to be like a paddling pool for you!”

I think there were more but by that time I had switched off.

I forgot about the comments as over the years as that is what I have learnt to do.  But it does annoy me that as a tall person I have to put up with it!

Again as I have mentioned on here before it’s just another reason as to why us tall people are different.
